What is it used for?
Cefixime is an antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections, such as infections of the ear, throat, chest, urinary tract and other areas. It does not work against viral infections like the common cold or flu.

How does it work?
It stops susceptible bacteria from forming their protective cell wall, which helps clear the infection.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed by the doctor and complete the full course, even if symptoms improve. Disperse the tablet in water before taking it if instructed on the product label or by the pharmacist. Do not share or reuse leftover antibiotics.

Common side effects
Diarrhoea, nausea, stomach pain, indigestion and vomiting may occur. Skin rash can also occur.

Precautions
Inform the doctor about any allergy to cefixime, cephalosporins or penicillin-type antibiotics, and about kidney disease. Seek medical help for severe or persistent diarrhoea, breathing difficulty, facial swelling or a severe skin rash. Use only when prescribed, as unnecessary antibiotic use can cause resistance.
