Acyclovax 400 Tabs (20X5) Acyclovir 400 Mg by Elder

What is it used for?
Acyclovir is an antiviral medicine used to treat herpes simplex infections, including cold sores and genital herpes. It may also be prescribed for shingles and chickenpox.

How does it work?
It blocks the ability of herpes viruses to multiply, helping reduce the severity and duration of the infection. It does not remove the virus permanently from the body.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed and complete the recommended course, even if symptoms improve. It can usually be taken with or without food. Drink plenty of fluids unless a doctor has advised fluid restriction. Starting treatment early is generally more helpful.

Common side effects
Headache, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach discomfort and dizziness.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about kidney disease, dehydration, pregnancy or breastfeeding, or an allergy to acyclovir or valacyclovir. Dose adjustment may be needed in kidney problems. Seek medical advice for confusion, hallucinations, severe weakness, or a serious skin reaction. Avoid sexual contact during genital herpes outbreaks; acyclovir does not reliably prevent spreading the infection.
