What is it used for?
Povidone iodine 5% is a topical antiseptic used to reduce germs on the skin and help prevent infection in minor cuts, grazes and wounds. Use only for the purpose stated on the product label.

How does it work?
It slowly releases iodine, which kills or inactivates many types of germs, including bacteria, viruses and fungi.

How to take/use it
Use externally and follow the product label or healthcare professional’s instructions. Clean the affected area as directed and apply the product only to the specified area. Do not swallow it, and do not use it in the eyes unless it is specifically labelled for eye use.

Common side effects
Mild skin irritation, redness, dryness or stinging. Rarely, an allergic skin reaction may occur.

Precautions
Avoid use if allergic to povidone iodine or iodine-containing products. Do not apply over large areas, deep wounds or severe burns unless advised by a healthcare professional. Avoid prolonged or repeated use without medical advice, especially in people with thyroid problems, kidney problems, or during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Keep away from the eyes and mouth. Stop use and seek medical advice if severe irritation, swelling or a rash develops.
