Aldine Ointment (Povidone Iodine 5% w/w)

Composition:

Each gram of ointment contains:

Povidone Iodine 5% w/w (equivalent to available Iodine 0.5% w/w)

Ointment base: q.s.

Description:

Aldine Ointment is a topical antiseptic preparation containing Povidone Iodine 5% w/w, formulated to prevent and treat minor skin infections and wounds.
It works by releasing free iodine, which provides broad-spectrum antimicrobial action against bacteria, fungi, viruses, protozoa, and spores.
The ointment forms a protective barrier on the affected area, promoting clean wound healing and reducing the risk of infection.
It is suitable for minor cuts, burns, abrasions, ulcers, surgical incisions, and skin infections.

Warnings and Precautions:

For external use only.

Avoid contact with eyes, ears, and mucous membranes.

Do not apply on large, deep, or severe wounds without medical advice.

Contraindicated in individuals allergic to iodine or povidone.

Use with caution in patients with thyroid disorders or those on lithium therapy.

Discontinue use if irritation, rash, or hypersensitivity occurs.

Avoid prolonged or excessive use to prevent systemic iodine absorption.

Use in pregnancy and lactation only under medical supervision.

Do not mix with mercury- or silver-based antiseptics.

Adverse Effects:

Common: Temporary brown staining of skin, mild irritation, or dryness.

Occasional: Redness, itching, or burning at the site of application.

Rare: Allergic contact dermatitis or hypersensitivity reactions.

Very rare: Systemic iodine absorption causing thyroid imbalance (with extensive or prolonged use).

Storage:

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place, away from light and moisture.

Keep the tube tightly closed after each use.

Do not freeze.

Keep out of reach of children.
