Aldine Ointment (Povidone Iodine 5% w/w)

Composition:

Each gram of ointment contains:

Povidone Iodine 5% w/w (equivalent to available Iodine 0.5% w/w)

Ointment base: q.s.

Description:

Aldine Ointment contains Povidone Iodine 5% w/w, a broad-spectrum antiseptic used for topical application to prevent and treat wound infections.
It acts by slow release of free iodine, which kills a wide range of bacteria, viruses, fungi, protozoa, and spores.
The ointment forms a protective layer over wounds and promotes clean healing by preventing microbial growth.
It is commonly used for minor cuts, burns, abrasions, ulcers, surgical incisions, and infected skin lesions.

Warnings and Precautions:

For external use only.

Avoid contact with eyes, ears, and mucous membranes.

Do not apply over large areas for prolonged periods.

Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to iodine or povidone.

Use with caution in thyroid disorders or patients receiving lithium therapy.

Discontinue if irritation, rash, or hypersensitivity occurs.

Avoid concurrent use with mercury-based antiseptics.

Use during pregnancy or lactation only under medical supervision.

Not intended for deep puncture wounds or severe burns without medical advice.

Adverse Effects:

Common: Temporary skin staining, mild irritation, or dryness.

Occasional: Itching or redness at the application site.

Rare: Allergic contact dermatitis or iodine sensitivity reactions.

Very rare: Systemic iodine absorption causing thyroid dysfunction (with prolonged or extensive use).

Storage:

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place, away from light and moisture.

Keep the container tightly closed after use.

Do not freeze.
