Composition

Dexamethasone 4 mg.

Uses

Dexamethasone is a corticosteroid that reduces inflammation and suppresses excessive immune-system activity. It may be prescribed for conditions such as:

- Severe allergic or inflammatory reactions
- Asthma or other respiratory inflammation
- Certain rheumatic or autoimmune disorders
- Skin and eye inflammatory conditions
- Certain cancers and blood disorders
- Brain swelling and other specific medical conditions

The appropriate dose and duration vary considerably depending on the condition.

How to Use

Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, preferably with or after food to reduce stomach irritation. If taken once daily, it is often taken in the morning.

Swallow the tablet with water. Do not suddenly stop dexamethasone if you have been taking it for a prolonged period or at higher doses; your doctor may need to reduce the dose gradually.

Precautions & Warnings

Tell your doctor if you have:

- Diabetes or high blood sugar
- High blood pressure
- Stomach ulcers
- Osteoporosis
- Glaucoma
- Liver or kidney disease
- Mental-health disorders
- Tuberculosis or another ongoing/recurrent infection

Dexamethasone can weaken the immune system, increase blood sugar and blood pressure, cause fluid retention, and increase susceptibility to infections. Long-term treatment can cause osteoporosis, weight gain, cataracts/glaucoma, adrenal suppression, and other complications.

Avoid contact with people who have contagious infections such as chickenpox or measles if you are not immune. Do not receive live vaccines without medical advice.

Possible Side Effects

Short-term cause weight gain, muscle weakness, osteoporosis, skin thinning, cataracts, glaucoma, and effects may include increased appetite, indigestion, insomnia, mood changes, increased blood sugar, and fluid retention.

Long-term or higher-dose treatment can cause weight gain, muscle weakness, osteoporosis, skin thinning, cataracts, glaucoma, and increased infection risk.

Seek urgent medical attention for severe infection symptoms, significant mood or behavioral changes, vision problems, severe abdominal pain, black stools, or signs of a serious allergic reaction.

Pregnancy & Breastfeeding

If you are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding, consult your doctor before using dexamethasone. Your doctor will weigh the benefits against potential risks and determine the appropriate dose.

Storage

Store at room temperature in a dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep out of reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date.

Important Safety Information
