Composition
Cefuroxime 500 mg \+ Clavulanic Acid 125 mg.
Uses
This is a combination antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections, including:
- Respiratory tract infections
- Sinus, ear, and throat infections
- Urinary tract infections
- Skin and soft-tissue infections
- Other infections caused by susceptible bacteria
Cefuroxime kills susceptible bacteria, while clavulanic acid inhibits certain bacterial enzymes (?-lactamases) that can make bacteria resistant to antibiotics.
It does not treat viral infections such as colds or influenza.
How to Use
Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, generally after food to improve absorption and reduce stomach upset. Swallow the tablet whole with water.
Complete the prescribed course even if you feel better. Do not stop, extend, or change the dose without medical advice.

Tell your doctor if you:
- Have an allergy to cefuroxime, other cephalosporins, penicillins, or other beta-lactam antibiotics
- Have kidney or liver disease
- Have previously developed antibiotic-associated colitis
- Have had jaundice or liver problems associated with antibiotics
Seek urgent medical attention for facial/throat swelling, breathing difficulty, severe rash, or other signs of a serious allergic reaction.
Contact your doctor if you develop persistent or bloody diarrhoea, as antibiotic-associated colitis can occur during or after treatment.
Possible Side Effects
Common side effects include:
- Nausea or vomiting
- Diarrhoea
- Abdominal discomfort
- Headache
- Dizziness
Clavulanic acid can contribute to gastrointestinal upset. Rarely, liver problems or serious allergic reactions may occur.
Pregnancy & Breastfeeding
If you are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding, consult your doctor before taking this medicine. Cefuroxime/clavulanic acid may be used when medically indicated, but your doctor should determine whether it is appropriate.

Important Safety Information
Use this medicine only for a bacterial infection for which it has been prescribed. Do not share antibiotics or use leftover tablets. Tell your doctor about all medicines you take, particularly if you use anticoagulants such as warfarin. If you miss a dose, take it when remembered unless it is nearly time for the next dose; do not take a double dose.
