Composition

Hydrocortisone Sodium Succinate 100 mg.

This is an injectable corticosteroid that is usually administered intravenously (IV) or intramuscularly (IM) by a healthcare professional.

Uses

Hydrocortisone sodium succinate is used when rapid corticosteroid treatment is required, including:

- Adrenal insufficiency and adrenal crisis
- Severe allergic or inflammatory reactions
- Severe asthma or other acute inflammatory conditions
- Certain rheumatic or autoimmune conditions
- Situations where oral corticosteroids cannot be taken

How to Use

The injection must be prepared and administered by a healthcare professional. The dose and route depend on the medical condition and its severity.

Do not self-inject or change the prescribed dose. In adrenal crisis, treatment is an emergency and should not be delayed.

Precautions & Warnings

Tell your doctor if you have:

- Diabetes or high blood sugar
- High blood pressure or heart disease
- An active or recurrent infection
- Tuberculosis
- Stomach ulcers
- Osteoporosis
- Glaucoma
- Liver or kidney disease
- A history of significant mood or psychiatric problems

Hydrocortisone can suppress the immune system, raise blood glucose and blood pressure, cause fluid retention, and increase susceptibility to infections. Prolonged or repeated treatment can cause osteoporosis, cataracts, glaucoma, muscle weakness, and adrenal suppression.

Possible Side Effects

Possible side effects include increased blood sugar, increased blood pressure, fluid retention, indigestion, headache, insomnia, and mood changes.

With prolonged or repeated treatment, additional steroid-related complications can occur.

Seek urgent medical attention for severe allergic reactions, severe infection symptoms, significant vision changes, severe abdominal pain, or major mood or behavioural changes.

Pregnancy & Breastfeeding

If you are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding, inform your doctor before receiving hydrocortisone. It may be used when medically necessary, particularly for adrenal insufficiency or serious inflammatory conditions.

Storage

Store the injection and any accompanying diluent according to the manufacturer's instructions. It should be prepared and administered by qualified healthcare professionals. Keep out of reach of children and do not use an expired or damaged preparation.

Important Safety Information

Hydrocortisone sodium succinate should be used under medical supervision. If it is being used as replacement therapy for adrenal insufficiency, it is important not to miss prescribed doses. Blood glucose, blood pressure, electrolytes, and other parameters may need monitoring during treatment. Inform healthcare professionals that you are receiving corticosteroids before surgery or during a serious illness.
