What is it used for?
This is a prescription skin medicine used for inflamed skin infections caused by fungi and bacteria. It may help reduce redness, itching and swelling along with treating the infection. It should be used only for the skin condition diagnosed by a healthcare professional.
How does it work?
Clobetasol reduces skin inflammation and itching. Ketoconazole and iodochlorhydroxyquinoline act against fungi, while gentamicin acts against certain bacteria.
How to take/use it
For external use only. Apply a thin layer to the affected skin exactly as directed by the doctor or pharmacist. Wash hands before and after use, unless the hands are being treated. Avoid contact with the eyes, mouth and other sensitive areas. Do not cover the area with a bandage or dressing unless advised.
Common side effects
Burning, stinging, itching, irritation, redness or dryness at the application site. Prolonged or inappropriate use may cause skin thinning, stretch marks or changes in skin colour.
Precautions
Use only under medical advice, as clobetasol is a very potent steroid and may worsen or mask some infections. Avoid using it on the face, groin, skin folds, broken skin or large areas unless specifically prescribed. Do not use for longer than recommended. Stop and seek medical advice if the rash worsens, spreads, or signs of an allergic reaction occur.
