Description:

Almetfor 500 contains Metformin Hydrochloride, an oral antidiabetic medication belonging to the biguanide class. It helps to lower blood glucose levels by reducing hepatic glucose production, decreasing intestinal glucose absorption, and enhancing insulin sensitivity in peripheral tissues.
It is indicated for the treatment of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, particularly in overweight patients, when diet and exercise alone are insufficient to achieve adequate glycemic control.
Almetfor 500 can be used as monotherapy or in combination with other oral antidiabetic agents or insulin.

Warnings and Precautions:

For oral use only, to be taken under medical supervision.

Contraindicated in patients with renal or hepatic impairment, metabolic acidosis, or diabetic ketoacidosis.

Monitor renal function regularly before and during treatment.

Avoid excessive alcohol intake, as it may precipitate lactic acidosis.

Discontinue temporarily before radiologic contrast studies or major surgery.

Use with caution in elderly, malnourished, or dehydrated patients.

Adverse Effects:

Common: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal discomfort, and decreased appetite (usually transient).

Occasional: Metallic taste, mild fatigue, or vitamin B12 deficiency with long-term use.

Rare: Lactic acidosis, a rare but potentially serious condition requiring urgent medical care.

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place, protected from light and moisture.
