Description:

Almetfor-SR 1000 contains Metformin Hydrochloride, an oral antihyperglycemic agent from the biguanide class. It acts primarily by reducing hepatic glucose production, decreasing intestinal glucose absorption, and improving peripheral glucose uptake and utilization.
The sustained-release (SR) formulation ensures a controlled release of Metformin, offering better gastrointestinal tolerance and convenient once-daily dosing.
It is indicated for the management of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus as monotherapy or in combination with other oral antidiabetic drugs or insulin to achieve optimal glycemic control.

Warnings and Precautions:

For oral use only under medical supervision.

Contraindicated in patients with renal impairment, hepatic dysfunction, metabolic acidosis, or diabetic ketoacidosis.

Regularly monitor renal function before and during therapy.

Avoid excessive alcohol consumption due to increased risk of lactic acidosis.

Temporarily discontinue prior to contrast-enhanced imaging or major surgery.

Use with caution in elderly, malnourished, or dehydrated patients.

Adverse Effects:

Common: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal discomfort, and loss of appetite (typically transient).

Occasional: Metallic taste, fatigue, or vitamin B12 deficiency with prolonged use.

Rare: Lactic acidosis — a serious but uncommon adverse reaction requiring immediate medical attention.
