Description:

Almetfor-SR 500 contains Metformin Hydrochloride, a biguanide class oral antidiabetic agent. It works by reducing hepatic glucose production, decreasing intestinal glucose absorption, and enhancing insulin sensitivity, thereby improving glycemic control.
The sustained-release formulation allows for gradual drug release, minimizing gastrointestinal side effects and enabling once-daily dosing.
It is indicated for the management of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, either as monotherapy or in combination with other antidiabetic agents.

Warnings and Precautions:

For oral use only, under medical supervision.

Contraindicated in patients with renal impairment, severe hepatic dysfunction, or metabolic acidosis (including diabetic ketoacidosis).

Monitor renal function regularly before and during treatment.

Avoid excessive alcohol intake, as it increases the risk of lactic acidosis.

Temporarily discontinue before contrast imaging procedures or major surgery.

Use with caution in elderly or malnourished patients.

Adverse Effects:

Common: Nausea, vomiting, abdominal discomfort, loss of appetite, and mild diarrhea (usually transient).

Occasional: Metallic taste, fatigue, or vitamin B12 deficiency with long-term use.

Rare: Lactic acidosis — a medical emergency requiring immediate attention.

Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place, protected from light and moisture.
