What is it used for?
Amlodipine 5 mg is used to treat high blood pressure. It may also be prescribed to prevent chest pain caused by angina. It helps reduce the risk of complications from high blood pressure, such as heart attack and stroke.

How does it work?
Amlodipine is a calcium-channel blocker. It relaxes and widens the blood vessels, allowing blood to flow more easily and reducing the workload on the heart.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, usually at the same time each day. It may be taken with or without food and should be swallowed with water. Do not stop taking it without medical advice. It is not intended to relieve sudden chest pain.

Common side effects
Ankle or foot swelling, headache, dizziness, flushing, tiredness, palpitations, nausea and stomach discomfort may occur.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about low blood pressure, liver disease, heart problems, pregnancy or breastfeeding, and all other medicines being taken. Rise slowly if dizziness occurs. Seek urgent medical help for severe dizziness, fainting, swelling of the face or throat, or worsening or new chest pain.
