What is it used for?
Used mainly to control high blood pressure. It may also be prescribed to help prevent chest pain due to angina.

How does it work?
Amlodipine relaxes and widens blood vessels, while atenolol slows the heartbeat and reduces the heart’s workload. Together, they help lower blood pressure and reduce strain on the heart.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, preferably at the same time each day, with or without food. Do not stop it suddenly, especially because of the atenolol component. If a dose is missed, follow the prescriber’s instructions and do not take an extra dose unless advised.

Common side effects
Dizziness, tiredness, headache, flushing, ankle or leg swelling, nausea, and a slow heartbeat may occur.

Precautions
Use only under medical supervision if there is asthma or breathing difficulty, a very slow heartbeat, heart rhythm or heart failure problems, diabetes, or liver or kidney disease. It may mask some warning signs of low blood sugar. Rise slowly if dizziness occurs, and seek medical advice for fainting, worsening breathing difficulty, or very slow heartbeat. Tell the doctor about pregnancy, breastfeeding, or other medicines being taken.
