What is it used for?
This is an injectable antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections. It does not work against viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
Amoxicillin kills susceptible bacteria by preventing them from forming their protective cell wall. Clavulanate helps amoxicillin work against bacteria that can otherwise resist it.

How to take/use it
This medicine is given by a doctor or nurse, usually by injection into a vein. The dose, timing and treatment duration depend on the infection and must be decided by the prescriber. Do not self-inject or stop treatment early unless advised.

Common side effects
Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, skin rash and pain or redness at the injection site may occur.

Precautions
Do not use if there has been a serious allergy to penicillin, amoxicillin, clavulanate or similar antibiotics. Tell the doctor about kidney or liver disease and any previous antibiotic-related jaundice or liver problems. Seek urgent medical help for breathing difficulty, facial swelling or a severe rash. Contact a doctor for severe or persistent diarrhoea, including diarrhoea with blood.
