What is it used for?
Amoxycillin with clavulanate is an antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections, such as infections of the ear, nose, throat, chest, skin, urinary tract and teeth, when prescribed by a doctor. It does not work against viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
Amoxycillin kills susceptible bacteria by stopping them from building their protective cell wall. Clavulanate helps protect amoxycillin from enzymes that can make some bacteria resistant to it.

How to take/use it
Use only in the dose and for the duration prescribed. Shake the suspension well before each use and measure it with the supplied measuring device. Take it with a meal if advised, and complete the prescribed course even if symptoms improve. Do not use leftover medicine or share it with others.

Common side effects
Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, stomach discomfort and mild skin rash may occur.

Precautions
Do not use if there has been a serious allergy to penicillin, amoxicillin, clavulanate or similar antibiotics. Inform the doctor about previous antibiotic-related jaundice or liver problems, kidney disease, or allergies. Seek urgent medical help for breathing difficulty, swelling of the face or throat, or a severe skin rash. Contact a doctor for severe, persistent or bloody diarrhoea. Use the reconstituted suspension only as directed on the label and store it as advised.
