What is it used for?
Used with diet and exercise to control high blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes when these measures alone are not enough. It is not used to treat type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.

How does it work?
Metformin reduces the amount of glucose made by the liver and helps the body use insulin better. Glimepiride helps the pancreas release more insulin to lower blood sugar.

How to take/use it
Take exactly as prescribed and with food to reduce stomach upset. Swallow the prolonged-release tablet whole; do not crush or chew it. Do not change the dose or stop treatment without medical advice. Monitor blood sugar as recommended.

Common side effects
Low blood sugar, nausea, diarrhoea, stomach discomfort, and headache. Low blood sugar may cause sweating, shaking, dizziness, hunger, or confusion.

Precautions
Use only under medical supervision if there is kidney or liver disease, heart failure, heavy alcohol use, or irregular meals. Avoid skipping meals and limit alcohol, as these may increase the risk of low blood sugar. Seek urgent medical help for severe or persistent weakness, breathing difficulty, unusual sleepiness, or severe vomiting. Kidney function may need monitoring during treatment.
