What is it used for?
Cefpodoxime is an antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections, including infections of the throat, sinuses, chest, urinary tract and skin. It does not work against viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
It stops susceptible bacteria from building their protective cell wall, which kills the bacteria and helps clear the infection.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed by the doctor. Complete the full prescribed course, even if symptoms improve. Do not share it or use leftover antibiotics.

Common side effects
Nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, diarrhoea, indigestion and headache may occur. Mild skin rash can also occur.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about any allergy to cefpodoxime, cephalosporins or penicillin-type antibiotics. Inform the doctor if there is kidney disease, as the dose may need adjustment. Seek medical advice for severe or persistent diarrhoea, or signs of an allergic reaction such as swelling, breathing difficulty or a widespread rash. Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding only on medical advice.
