What is it used for?
Cinnarizine is used to prevent and relieve vertigo (a spinning or dizzy sensation) and related nausea. It is also used to help prevent motion sickness.

How does it work?
It reduces the sensitivity of the balance centre in the inner ear and blocks certain signals that can cause dizziness and nausea.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as directed by the doctor or pharmacist. Swallow the tablet with water, preferably with or after food if it causes stomach upset. Do not drive or operate machinery until its effect on alertness is known.

Common side effects
Sleepiness, dry mouth, indigestion, nausea and weight gain may occur.

Precautions
It may cause drowsiness; avoid alcohol and take care when driving. Inform the doctor if there is Parkinson’s disease, as cinnarizine may worsen its symptoms. Seek medical advice before use during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or if side effects are severe or persistent.
