What is it used for?
Atorvastatin is used to lower high cholesterol, especially “bad” LDL cholesterol and triglycerides. It also helps reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke in people at increased cardiovascular risk.

How does it work?
It reduces the liver’s production of cholesterol by blocking an enzyme involved in cholesterol formation. This helps lower cholesterol levels in the blood.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, with or without food. Take it regularly and do not stop treatment without medical advice. Continue recommended diet, exercise and follow-up blood tests.

Common side effects
Headache, nausea, diarrhoea, indigestion and muscle aches or pain may occur.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about liver disease, heavy alcohol use, thyroid problems or a history of muscle problems. Seek medical advice promptly for unexplained or severe muscle pain, weakness, fever or dark urine. It is not usually used during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Tell the doctor about all other medicines, including certain antibiotics, antifungals and cholesterol medicines, because interactions can increase side effects.
