What is it used for?
Atropine 0.6 mg/ml injection is used by healthcare professionals in emergencies to treat a dangerously slow heartbeat. It may also be used to reduce excessive secretions before procedures and as part of treatment for certain poisonings, such as organophosphate poisoning.

How does it work?
It blocks the action of a chemical messenger called acetylcholine. This can increase the heart rate and reduce saliva, airway and other secretions.

How to take/use it
This injection must be given by a doctor or nurse. The dose, route and frequency depend on the condition being treated and the patient's response. It should not be self-administered.

Common side effects
Dry mouth, blurred vision, enlarged pupils, sensitivity to light, flushing, fast heartbeat, constipation, difficulty passing urine and dizziness may occur.

Precautions
Tell the doctor if there is glaucoma, prostate enlargement, difficulty passing urine, bowel blockage, heart disease or high fever. Seek urgent medical help for severe palpitations, confusion, extreme agitation, breathing difficulty or inability to pass urine.
