What is it used for?
Atorvastatin is used to lower high cholesterol, especially LDL ("bad") cholesterol and triglycerides. It also helps reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke in people at increased cardiovascular risk.

How does it work?
It reduces the liver's production of cholesterol and helps the liver remove more LDL cholesterol from the blood.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, usually at the same time each day, with or without food. Swallow the tablet with water. Continue it regularly and do not stop without medical advice. Follow the recommended diet and exercise plan.

Common side effects
Headache, nausea, indigestion, diarrhoea, and muscle aches may occur. Seek medical advice promptly for unexplained or severe muscle pain, weakness, or dark urine.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about liver disease, heavy alcohol use, thyroid problems, or a history of muscle problems. It should not be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Inform the doctor about all other medicines, especially certain antibiotics, antifungals, antiviral medicines, and other cholesterol-lowering drugs, as interactions may increase the risk of muscle problems. Liver blood tests may be recommended.
