What is it used for?
Atorvastatin is used to lower high cholesterol, especially LDL (bad) cholesterol and triglycerides. It also helps reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke in people at increased cardiovascular risk.

How does it work?
It blocks an enzyme in the liver involved in making cholesterol. This reduces cholesterol production and helps the liver remove more LDL cholesterol from the blood.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, usually at the same time each day, with or without food. Continue the recommended diet and do not stop treatment without medical advice.

Common side effects
Headache, nausea, indigestion, diarrhoea, and muscle or joint pain may occur.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about liver disease, heavy alcohol use, kidney problems, or thyroid problems. Report unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, weakness, severe tiredness, or dark urine promptly. It should not be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Tell the doctor about all other medicines, especially certain antibiotics, antifungals, and cholesterol medicines.
