What is it used for?
This prescription antibiotic is used to treat certain bacterial infections, including infections of the ear, sinuses, throat, chest, urinary tract, skin and soft tissues, and teeth. It does not work for viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
Amoxicillin kills susceptible bacteria by stopping them from building their protective cell wall. Clavulanic acid helps prevent some bacteria from breaking down amoxicillin, allowing it to work against a wider range of bacteria.

How to take/use it
Take it only as prescribed and preferably with a meal to reduce stomach upset. Swallow with water and complete the prescribed course, even if symptoms improve. Do not share leftover antibiotics or use them without medical advice.

Common side effects
Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, stomach discomfort, indigestion, skin rash and thrush may occur.

Precautions
Do not take it if there has been a serious allergy to penicillin, amoxicillin, other beta-lactam antibiotics or any of its ingredients. Tell the doctor about kidney or liver problems and any previous antibiotic-related jaundice or liver problems. Seek medical help for breathing difficulty, swelling, severe rash, or severe or persistent diarrhoea. Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding only on medical advice.
