What is it used for?
Azithromycin 250 mg is an antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections, including infections of the throat, ears, chest, sinuses, skin and some sexually transmitted infections. It does not work against viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
It stops susceptible bacteria from making the proteins they need to grow and multiply.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed and complete the prescribed course, even if symptoms improve. Do not share it or use leftover antibiotics. Follow the product instructions about taking it with food, and separate it from aluminium- or magnesium-containing antacids if advised by a healthcare professional.

Common side effects
Nausea, diarrhoea, stomach pain, vomiting and headache.

Precautions
Tell the prescriber about allergies to azithromycin or other macrolide antibiotics, liver problems, heart rhythm problems or a history of severe diarrhoea after antibiotics. Seek medical help for breathing difficulty, severe or persistent diarrhoea, yellowing of the skin or eyes, fainting, or a fast or irregular heartbeat.
