What is it used for?
Azithromycin is an antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections, including some infections of the chest, throat, ears, skin and reproductive system. It does not work against viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
It stops susceptible bacteria from making the proteins they need to grow and multiply.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, at the same time each day, and complete the prescribed course even if symptoms improve. It may be taken with or without food unless the product or prescriber advises otherwise. Do not share antibiotics or use leftover medicine.

Common side effects
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach pain and headache.

Precautions
Do not use it if there has been a previous serious allergy to azithromycin or similar antibiotics. Tell the doctor if there is liver disease, an irregular heartbeat or a history of heart rhythm problems, or if other medicines are being taken. Seek medical help for severe or persistent diarrhoea, yellowing of the skin or eyes, a fast or irregular heartbeat, swelling or difficulty breathing.
