What is it used for?
Azithromycin is an antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections, including some infections of the throat, chest, ears, skin and other parts of the body. It does not work against viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
It stops susceptible bacteria from making the proteins they need to grow and multiply.

How to take/use it
Use only as prescribed. Shake the suspension well before each dose and measure it with an oral syringe or measuring spoon. Take the full prescribed course, even if symptoms improve. Do not use leftover medicine or share it with others.

Common side effects
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach pain and headache may occur.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about any allergy to azithromycin or other macrolide antibiotics, liver disease, or a history of irregular heartbeat. Seek medical help for severe or persistent diarrhoea, yellowing of the skin or eyes, fainting, a fast or irregular heartbeat, or signs of a serious allergic reaction such as swelling or difficulty breathing.
