What is it used for?
Bisacodyl 5 mg is used for short-term relief of constipation. It may also be used to empty the bowel before certain medical procedures, when advised by a healthcare professional.

How does it work?
It is a stimulant laxative that increases movement of the bowel and helps promote a bowel movement.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as directed on the package or by a healthcare professional. Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not crush or chew it. Avoid using it for a prolonged period without medical advice.

Common side effects
Abdominal cramps or discomfort, diarrhoea, nausea and bloating.

Precautions
Do not use it if there is severe abdominal pain, vomiting, suspected bowel blockage or unexplained rectal bleeding. Maintain adequate fluid intake unless fluid restriction has been advised. Seek medical advice if constipation persists, keeps returning, or if severe diarrhoea or dehydration occurs.
