What is it used for?
Bisoprolol is used to treat high blood pressure and certain heart conditions, including angina (heart-related chest pain) and heart failure. It may be prescribed alone or with other medicines.

How does it work?
It is a beta-blocker that slows the heartbeat and reduces the force with which the heart pumps. This lowers blood pressure and reduces the heart’s workload.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, usually at the same time each day, with or without food. Swallow the tablet with water. Do not stop taking it suddenly unless advised by a doctor.

Common side effects
Tiredness, dizziness, headache, cold hands or feet, slow heartbeat, low blood pressure, nausea, diarrhoea or constipation may occur.

Precautions
Tell the doctor if there is asthma or other breathing difficulty, a very slow heartbeat, low blood pressure, diabetes, circulation problems, or kidney or liver disease. Bisoprolol may mask some warning signs of low blood sugar. Seek medical advice for severe breathing difficulty, fainting, or an unusually slow heartbeat. Tell the doctor about all other medicines being taken.
