What is it used for?
Cabergoline is mainly used to treat high prolactin levels (hyperprolactinaemia), which may cause irregular or absent periods, unexpected breast milk production, or fertility problems. It may also be prescribed by a doctor to prevent or stop breast milk production in specific situations.

How does it work?
Cabergoline acts like dopamine, a natural chemical in the brain. It lowers the release of prolactin, the hormone responsible for breast milk production and some reproductive effects.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed by the doctor. Swallow the tablet with water, preferably with or after food if advised, and do not change the dose or stop treatment without medical guidance.

Common side effects
Nausea, vomiting, stomach discomfort, constipation, headache, dizziness, tiredness and low blood pressure, especially when standing up.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about heart valve disease, high or low blood pressure, liver disease, lung or fibrotic disorders, or a history of serious mental health problems. It may cause dizziness or sleepiness, so use caution with driving. Seek medical advice for breathing difficulty, chest pain, leg swelling, fainting, unusual thoughts or uncontrollable urges. Inform the doctor if pregnant or planning pregnancy.
