Description

Calbitin (Topotecan) is a topoisomerase I inhibitor used in the treatment of ovarian cancer, small cell lung cancer (SCLC), and cervical cancer. It works by interfering with DNA replication in cancer cells, leading to cell death and slowing tumor progression.

Precautions

Use only under the supervision of an oncologist.
Regular monitoring of blood counts is essential due to a high risk of neutropenia.
Inform the doctor if fever, infection, shortness of breath, or severe fatigue occurs.
Use cautiously in patients with kidney impairment.
Avoid pregnancy and breastfeeding during treatment.
Do not receive live vaccines while on therapy.

Adverse Effects

Low blood counts (neutropenia, anemia, thrombocytopenia).
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea.
Fatigue, weakness.
Hair thinning.
Mouth sores.
Rare: lung toxicity, severe infections.
