What is it used for?
Carbimazole 10mg is used to treat an overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism), including conditions such as Graves’ disease. It may also be used to control thyroid hormone levels before thyroid surgery or radioactive iodine treatment.

How does it work?
It reduces the thyroid gland’s production of thyroid hormones, helping bring high thyroid hormone levels under control.

How to take/use it
Take exactly as prescribed and at the same time each day. Swallow the tablet with water, with or without food. Do not stop treatment or change the dose without medical advice. Regular blood tests are needed to check thyroid hormone levels and adjust treatment.

Common side effects
Nausea, headache, skin rash, itching and joint pain may occur. Contact a doctor if side effects are troublesome or persistent.

Precautions
Seek urgent medical advice if fever, sore throat, mouth ulcers, unusual tiredness or signs of infection develop, as this can rarely indicate a serious reduction in white blood cells. Report yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine or severe abdominal pain, which may indicate liver problems. Tell the doctor if pregnant, planning pregnancy or breastfeeding, as treatment may need adjustment. Tell the doctor about any previous liver or blood disorders or allergy to carbimazole.
