Composition
Nifedipine 20 mg (Sustained/Retard release)
Description
Cardipin Retard contains Nifedipine, a calcium channel blocker (CCB) used for:
Hypertension (high blood pressure)
Chronic stable angina
Vasospastic (Prinzmetal’s) angina
It works by relaxing blood vessels, improving blood flow, and reducing workload on the heart.
Precautions
Avoid sudden withdrawal—may cause rebound hypertension.
Use cautiously in patients with severe hypotension, heart failure, aortic stenosis, or liver impairment.
Avoid alcohol and grapefruit juice (may increase drug levels).
Not recommended in pregnancy unless clearly needed.
Do not crush or chew the retard tablet.
Adverse Effects
Common: Headache, Flushing, Dizziness, Swelling of ankles/feet (edema)
Less common: Palpitations, Nausea, Fatigue, Gingival hyperplasia (gum swelling)
Rare: Severe hypotension, Allergic reactions
