What is it used for?
Carvedilol is used to treat high blood pressure and heart failure. It may also be used after a heart attack when the heart’s pumping ability is reduced, as prescribed by a doctor.

How does it work?
It blocks certain stress hormones, slowing the heart rate and relaxing blood vessels. This reduces the workload on the heart and helps lower blood pressure.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, preferably with food. Take it at the same time each day and do not stop it suddenly without medical advice.

Common side effects
Dizziness, tiredness, weakness, low blood pressure, slow heartbeat, headache, diarrhoea, and cold hands or feet.

Precautions
Use only under medical supervision if there is asthma or severe breathing difficulty, a very slow heartbeat, low blood pressure, liver disease, or diabetes. Carvedilol may hide some warning signs of low blood sugar. Rise slowly if dizzy, and seek medical advice if breathing problems, fainting, swelling, or a very slow heartbeat occurs.
