Description

Carviedge 6.25 is an oral antihypertensive agent containing carvedilol, a non-selective β-adrenergic blocker with additional α1-adrenergic blocking activity. The combined β- and α-blockade produces reduction in heart rate and myocardial contractility together with peripheral vasodilation, resulting in decreased blood pressure and reduced cardiac workload. Indicated for essential hypertension, and used in appropriate doses for chronic heart failure and post-myocardial infarction management as per clinical judgement.

Warnings & Precautions

For oral use only. Use under medical supervision.

Do not stop abruptly — taper gradually under physician guidance to avoid rebound hypertension or ischemia.

Use with caution in patients with bradycardia, sick sinus syndrome, second- or third-degree heart block (unless a pacemaker is present), severe hepatic impairment, or decompensated heart failure.

Avoid or use cautiously in asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (risk of bronchospasm) and in patients with significant peripheral vascular disease.

May mask signs of hypoglycaemia in diabetic patients; use caution when titrating antidiabetic therapy.

Use caution with concomitant drugs that cause bradycardia or hypotension (other beta-blockers, nondihydropyridine CCBs, certain antiarrhythmics).

Monitor blood pressure and heart rate regularly during initiation and titration.

Pregnancy / lactation: use only if clearly needed and under medical advice.

Adverse Effects

Common: Dizziness, fatigue, headache, hypotension, bradycardia, weakness.

Frequent/possible: Gastrointestinal upset (nausea, diarrhea), weight gain, peripheral oedema.

Less common/serious: Worsening heart failure on initiation, conduction disturbances, bronchospasm, hypoglycaemic unawareness, erectile dysfunction, hepatic enzyme elevation.

If severe adverse effects (e.g., syncope, marked bradycardia, severe breathlessness, signs of hepatic dysfunction) occur, discontinue and seek medical attention.

Storage

Store in a cool, dry place below 25°C.
