What is it used for?
Carvedilol is used to treat high blood pressure and certain heart conditions, including heart failure and reduced heart function after a heart attack. It may be prescribed alone or with other medicines.

How does it work?
It slows the heart rate and reduces the force with which the heart pumps. It also relaxes blood vessels, helping lower blood pressure and reduce the workload on the heart.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, preferably with food, and at the same time each day. Do not change the dose or stop it suddenly without medical advice. If a dose is missed, follow the instructions provided by the doctor or pharmacist.

Common side effects
Dizziness, tiredness, low blood pressure, slow heartbeat, headache, diarrhoea and nausea may occur. Dizziness may be more noticeable when starting treatment or increasing the dose.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about asthma or other breathing problems, a very slow heartbeat, low blood pressure, heart rhythm problems, diabetes, liver disease or circulation problems. Carvedilol may hide some warning signs of low blood sugar. Rise slowly from sitting or lying down, and seek medical help for severe breathing difficulty, fainting, swelling or a very slow heartbeat.
