What is it used for?
Carvedilol is used to lower high blood pressure and to treat certain heart conditions, including heart failure and reduced heart function after a heart attack.

How does it work?
It blocks certain stress hormones that increase heart rate and blood pressure. This helps the heart beat more slowly and with less effort.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, preferably with food. Take it at the same time each day and do not stop it suddenly, as this may worsen heart problems. If a dose is missed, follow the doctor's or pharmacist's advice.

Common side effects
Dizziness, tiredness, low blood pressure, slow heartbeat, diarrhoea, and cold hands or feet may occur.

Precautions
Use only under medical supervision if there is asthma or other breathing difficulty, a very slow heartbeat, low blood pressure, diabetes, liver disease, or a heart rhythm problem. It may mask warning signs of low blood sugar. Rise slowly if dizzy, and seek medical advice for worsening breathlessness, swelling, fainting, or rapid weight gain.
