What is it used for?
Carvedilol is used to lower high blood pressure and to treat certain heart conditions, including heart failure. It may also be prescribed after a heart attack when the heart’s pumping ability is reduced.

How does it work?
It slows the heart rate and relaxes blood vessels, helping the heart pump with less effort and reducing blood pressure.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, preferably with food. Take it at the same time each day and do not stop it suddenly, as this may worsen heart problems. If a dose is missed, follow the instructions provided by the doctor or pharmacist.

Common side effects
Dizziness, tiredness, weakness, low blood pressure, slow heartbeat, diarrhoea, nausea and cold hands or feet.

Precautions
May cause dizziness, especially when standing up; rise slowly and avoid driving until its effects are known. Tell the doctor about asthma or other breathing problems, a slow heartbeat, low blood pressure, diabetes, liver disease or circulation problems. Carvedilol may hide warning signs of low blood sugar. Do not stop treatment suddenly. Seek medical help for severe breathing difficulty, fainting, very slow heartbeat or worsening swelling or breathlessness.
