What is it used for?
Carvedilol controlled-release is used to treat high blood pressure and certain types of heart failure. It may also be prescribed after a heart attack in some patients, as directed by a doctor.

How does it work?
It blocks certain effects of stress hormones on the heart and blood vessels. This slows the heartbeat, reduces the workload on the heart and helps relax blood vessels.

How to take/use it
Take exactly as prescribed, with food. Swallow the controlled-release capsule whole; do not crush or chew it. Do not stop treatment suddenly without medical advice.

Common side effects
Dizziness, tiredness, low blood pressure, slow heartbeat and diarrhoea may occur. Dizziness may be more noticeable when standing up.

Precautions
Tell the doctor if there is asthma or other breathing disease, a slow heartbeat, heart block, low blood pressure, diabetes, liver disease or worsening heart failure. This medicine may mask some warning signs of low blood sugar. Seek medical help for severe breathing difficulty, fainting, very slow heartbeat or sudden worsening swelling. Avoid driving or operating machinery if dizzy.
