What is it used for?
Cefepime with sulbactam is an antibacterial medicine used to treat serious infections caused by susceptible bacteria, including infections of the lungs, urinary tract, abdomen, skin and soft tissues, and bloodstream. It does not treat viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
Cefepime kills bacteria by preventing them from forming their protective cell wall. Sulbactam helps cefepime work against bacteria that produce enzymes capable of weakening the antibiotic.

How to take/use it
This medicine is usually given as an injection or infusion by a healthcare professional. The dose, frequency, route and treatment duration depend on the infection and kidney function. Do not self-administer or stop treatment early unless advised by the prescriber.

Common side effects
Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, rash, headache, and pain or irritation at the injection site may occur.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about allergies to cefepime, penicillins, cephalosporins or other beta-lactam antibiotics, and about kidney disease. Dose adjustment may be needed in reduced kidney function. Seek urgent medical help for breathing difficulty, facial swelling, severe rash, severe or persistent diarrhoea, confusion, unusual movements or seizures.
