What is it used for?
Cefepime with tazobactam is an injectable antibiotic used to treat serious infections caused by susceptible bacteria, such as certain infections of the lungs, urinary tract, skin and soft tissues, abdomen, or bloodstream. It does not treat viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
Cefepime kills bacteria by preventing them from building their protective cell wall. Tazobactam helps protect cefepime from enzymes produced by some bacteria, allowing it to work against a wider range of bacteria.

How to take/use it
This medicine is given into a vein by a doctor or nurse. The dose and treatment duration depend on the type and severity of infection, kidney function, age and other medical factors. Use it only as prescribed and complete the prescribed course unless the doctor advises otherwise.

Common side effects
Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, rash, headache and pain or irritation at the injection site may occur.

Precautions
Inform the doctor about any allergy to cefepime, other cephalosporins, penicillins or other antibiotics. Dose adjustment may be needed in kidney disease. Tell the doctor about a history of seizures or brain disorders. Seek medical help for breathing difficulty, facial swelling, severe skin reactions, confusion or seizures. Contact a doctor for severe or persistent diarrhoea, especially during or after treatment.
