What is it used for?
Cefoperazone with sulbactam is an injectable antibiotic used to treat serious bacterial infections, including infections of the lungs, urinary tract, abdomen, skin and soft tissues, bones and joints, and blood, when prescribed by a doctor.

How does it work?
Cefoperazone kills bacteria by stopping them from forming their protective cell wall. Sulbactam helps cefoperazone work against bacteria that can otherwise resist certain antibiotics.

How to take/use it
This medicine is given by a doctor or nurse as an injection into a vein or muscle. The dose and treatment duration depend on the type and severity of infection. Do not self-inject or stop treatment early unless advised by the doctor.

Common side effects
Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, rash, itching, and pain or redness at the injection site may occur.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about any allergy to penicillin, cephalosporin or other antibiotics, liver or kidney disease, bleeding problems, or use of blood-thinning medicines. Seek urgent medical help for breathing difficulty, facial swelling, severe rash, persistent or bloody diarrhoea, or unusual bleeding. Avoid alcohol during treatment and for several days after the last dose unless the doctor advises otherwise.
