What is it used for?
Cefixime oral suspension is an antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections, such as infections of the ear, throat, airways, urinary tract and other areas, when prescribed by a doctor. It does not work against viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
Cefixime is a cephalosporin antibiotic. It kills susceptible bacteria by preventing them from forming their protective cell wall.

How to take/use it
Use only as prescribed by the doctor. Shake the suspension well before each use and measure it with an accurate measuring device. Complete the prescribed course, even if symptoms improve. If it is supplied as a powder, prepare it only as directed on the label or by a pharmacist.

Common side effects
Diarrhoea, nausea, stomach pain, vomiting, indigestion and headache. Mild skin rash may also occur.

Precautions
Do not use if allergic to cefixime, other cephalosporin antibiotics or if there has been a serious allergy to penicillin-type antibiotics, unless specifically advised by a doctor. Tell the doctor about kidney problems or previous antibiotic-related diarrhoea. Seek medical help for breathing difficulty, swelling, severe rash or persistent or bloody diarrhoea. Use only for a prescribed bacterial infection and do not share or save leftover medicine.
