What is it used for?
Cefixime is an antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections, such as infections of the throat, ears, airways, urinary tract and other areas, when caused by susceptible bacteria. It does not work for viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
It kills susceptible bacteria by preventing them from forming a protective cell wall.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed. If this is an oral suspension, shake the bottle well before each use and measure the dose with an appropriate measuring device. Complete the prescribed course, even if symptoms improve. Do not use leftover antibiotics or share them with others.

Common side effects
Diarrhoea, nausea, stomach pain, indigestion and headache. Mild skin rash may also occur.

Precautions
Do not use if there has been a serious allergy to cefixime, other cephalosporin antibiotics or certain penicillin antibiotics. Inform the doctor about kidney problems or previous antibiotic-related diarrhoea. Seek medical help for breathing difficulty, swelling, severe rash, or severe or persistent diarrhoea.
