What is it used for?
Cefpodoxime is an antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections, including infections of the respiratory tract, urinary tract, skin and other areas. It does not work against viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
It stops susceptible bacteria from building their protective cell wall, which kills the bacteria and helps clear the infection.

How to take/use it
Use only as prescribed by a doctor. Follow the product label or healthcare professional’s instructions for the correct dose, route and duration. Use the supplied diluent and do not prepare or administer the medicine unless instructed to do so. Complete the prescribed course unless advised otherwise.

Common side effects
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach pain, indigestion and headache. Mild skin rash may also occur.

Precautions
Do not use if there is a history of serious allergy to cefpodoxime, cephalosporins or other beta-lactam antibiotics, unless specifically advised by a doctor. Inform the doctor about kidney disease, pregnancy or breastfeeding. Seek medical help for breathing difficulty, facial swelling, severe rash, or severe or persistent diarrhoea. Antibiotics should not be used without medical advice.
