What is it used for?
Cefpodoxime is an antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections, including infections of the throat, sinuses, ears, lungs, urinary tract and skin. It does not work against viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
It kills susceptible bacteria by preventing them from forming a protective cell wall.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed and complete the full course, even if symptoms improve. Take the tablet with food and swallow it with water. Do not take extra doses if one is missed; follow the advice of a doctor or pharmacist.

Common side effects
Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, headache and skin rash may occur.

Precautions
Do not use it if there has been a serious allergy to cefpodoxime, other cephalosporin antibiotics or certain penicillin antibiotics. Tell the doctor about kidney disease, as dose adjustment may be needed. Seek medical help for severe or persistent diarrhoea, breathing difficulty, facial swelling or a severe skin rash. Use antibiotics only when prescribed.
