What is it used for?
Cefpodoxime is an antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections, such as infections of the throat, lungs, urinary tract, skin and soft tissues. It does not work against viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
It kills susceptible bacteria by preventing them from forming their protective cell wall.

How to take/use it
Take by mouth exactly as prescribed and follow the product label for preparation and storage. Shake the liquid well if instructed. Complete the prescribed course, even if symptoms improve, unless a healthcare professional advises otherwise.

Common side effects
Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain and headache. Skin rash may occur.

Precautions
Do not use if there has been a serious allergy to cefpodoxime, other cephalosporin antibiotics or certain penicillin-type antibiotics. Tell the healthcare professional about kidney problems, as dose adjustment may be needed. Seek medical help for facial swelling, breathing difficulty, a severe rash or severe or persistent diarrhoea. Use only when prescribed.
