What is it used for?
This medicine is an antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections. It should be used only when prescribed by a healthcare professional; it does not work for viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
Cefpodoxime stops bacteria from forming their protective cell wall. Potassium clavulanate helps protect cefpodoxime from enzymes made by some bacteria, allowing it to work against them.

How to take/use it
Use only in the dose and for the duration prescribed. If supplied as a liquid suspension, prepare and store it exactly as directed, shake well before use, and measure each dose with an accurate measuring device. Complete the prescribed course, even if symptoms improve.

Common side effects
Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, indigestion and skin rash may occur.

Precautions
Do not use if there has been a serious allergy to cefpodoxime, cephalosporins, penicillins or other beta-lactam antibiotics. Tell the healthcare professional about kidney problems or previous antibiotic-related diarrhoea. Seek medical help for breathing difficulty, swelling of the face or throat, severe rash, or severe or persistent diarrhoea.
