What is it used for?
Cefoperazone with sulbactam is an antibiotic used to treat serious bacterial infections. It does not treat viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
Cefoperazone stops susceptible bacteria from building their protective cell wall. Sulbactam blocks enzymes that can make some bacteria resistant to cefoperazone, helping the antibiotic work more effectively.

Common side effects
Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, skin rash, and pain or irritation at the injection site may occur. Changes in blood tests, including liver or blood-count results, are also possible.

Precautions
Inform the healthcare professional about any previous allergy to cephalosporins, penicillins, or other antibiotics. Seek urgent medical help for breathing difficulty, facial swelling, severe rash, or severe or persistent diarrhoea. Tell the doctor about liver disease, bleeding problems, or medicines that affect bleeding. Avoid alcohol during treatment and for the period advised by the doctor, as cefoperazone may cause an unpleasant reaction with alcohol.
