What is it used for?
Cefuroxime axetil with potassium clavulanate is an antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections, such as infections of the throat, ears, sinuses, chest, urinary tract and skin. It does not treat viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
Cefuroxime kills bacteria by interfering with the formation of their protective cell wall. Potassium clavulanate helps cefuroxime work against bacteria that can otherwise resist some antibiotics.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed by the doctor. Swallow the tablet whole with water, preferably after food, and complete the prescribed course even if symptoms improve. Do not skip doses or share this medicine with others.

Common side effects
Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, stomach discomfort, headache and skin rash may occur.

Precautions
Do not take it if there has been a serious allergy to cefuroxime, penicillins, cephalosporins or other beta-lactam antibiotics. Tell the doctor about kidney problems, previous antibiotic-related diarrhoea or any history of severe allergy. Seek medical help for breathing difficulty, swelling, a severe skin rash or severe or persistent diarrhoea.
